If anyone is wanting a great camera shop..........try these.

These two shops sponsored me by providing unwanted camera films and i am very grateful and it made it possible for me to make the garment and the way i did.

So if anyone is wanting to spend a bit of money on a camera or camera equipment go to one of these shops as they are really helpful and lovely people. As when i need anything for my camera i will certainly go to these..........

4th Week - Assistant to the 3rd Year

This week i sewed buttons on Lucy's full collection. I spent 7 hours doing this, so it wasn't that exciting and i didn't learn a lot i just had raw fingers at the end of the day but i can now sew buttons on with my eyes closed. Nothing else to write to be honest.........

Weaving photographic strips into a Hessian kind of fabric

I think these samples are the most successful they really combine interesting materials together.

I like how the images have been cut up so are no longer recognizable but the colours show through really well and the colours combines makes a really interesting sample.

Using a long exposer for a weaving sample........

These samples have been created on an abstract weave. I used photographs taken using a long exposer because of the colour it creates agains the black back ground. Also the pattern with the swirls and the vertical lines.

I think these samples work well but i don't think it would be that effective on a lager scale. My other samples for this unit i think are far more effective but i do like the concept of it so could take it further but add more texture to the sample.

A few Samples - weaving, photography!

I really like these samples. I think burning works well but would vary on each fabric how and if it would burn. so would have to try that out when deciding on the fabric.

Weaving Film Negatives

I have done a few samples using film negatives which i really like. It shows my themes really well, with photography, weave, and any complete change in appearance character, circumstances etc. I have changed the negatives by cutting them to change there original state.

One sample i have alternated which way i put the negatives to give varied colour which i think it quite interesting.

One problem with using negatives is that they are extremely expensive, just these few samples cost around £5.00 and the plan is to make a maxi skirt and a bag and a few bits hopefully but im not sure if financially it is possible because it would cost hundreds.

Research for Lucy

I came across these images whilst looking through a textile book ( but cannot remember what book it was) and thought it really was interesting! and very similar to what my 3rd year Lucy is doing!

My 3rd Year that i am working with, a sample of her work.

Here are a few bits of Lucy's work.

The sack dress is really interesting and how the neckline can be changed.
The skirt doesn't really seem to go with the rest of the collection everything is very over sized and masculine with a feminine twist, everything does look feminine but you can see where there is male influences in the collection. But with this skirt it is a fitted pencil skirt with a ruffle top, the fabric is the same as the others in the collection but i'm not sure how it goes with the rest of the collection.

Week 3

This is my 3rd week of been a design assistant had a really good day today. I was able to look through Lucys sketch book and see where she got her designs from. and also i looked at her full collection which is made but not all of them are totally finished. But it is amazing, not everything is to my taste because of the choice of fabric some pieces are just too green and khaki. But her designs are amazing she is really talented. Her jackets and a pair of trousers has to be the best. The amount of fold and bits overlapping layering is just amazing.

I did a bit of running around for another girl, going down into town and going to the art shop as Lucy never actually has that much for me to do but im happy just watching her because i am learning so much just watching and listening.

oh i actually forgot my main task was to sort out through like 500 buttons and match them all up which as you can imagine is quite a repetitive task and after button number 50 they all started to blur and look the same.

Each week she says "oh ill have much more for you to do next week" so lets hope she does have much more for me to do next week. But either way im really enjoying it and learning loads.

week 2..... Assistant to the 3rd year

Again Denise the girl I am meant to be paired with isn't at college not that I am surprised.

I help Lucy for the day, she wanted me to go to fab works, a fabric shop in Dewberry to get her some leather to cover her sketch books.

Task 2: was to conduct a mini shop report of prices and shop window displays and the inspirations. Also to get some logo designs.

Harvey Nicols was the first place to look for the shop window display as they always are amazing and really inspirational.

I did a mini shop report looking at clothes that were similar to what she was doing with the colours and the cuts I just took a few notes down with the fabric construction pricing and description of a few items:

Task 3: To ask a few business women a few questions. Not really sure how this relates to what she is doing as business wear and army wear are miles apart.
Three women were asked with slightly different styles but I could only get a picture of one as the other ones weren't that happy about having their photograph taken and even this photograph didn't work properly as the flash didn't go
off.

Cord black jacket

Finally task 4:
which wasn't for Lucy it was for her friend as her 1st year didn't show. It was to go and take some pictures of boats at Clarence docks as that is what has inspired her work. I don't understand why all this was been done at such a late date as they are on with their collections so surely this should have been done months ago. Here are a few of the photographs that I sent her.
