week 2..... Assistant to the 3rd year

Again Denise the girl I am meant to be paired with isn't at college not that I am surprised.

I help Lucy for the day, she wanted me to go to fab works, a fabric shop in Dewberry to get her some leather to cover her sketch books.

Task 2: was to conduct a mini shop report of prices and shop window displays and the inspirations. Also to get some logo designs.

Harvey Nicols was the first place to look for the shop window display as they always are amazing and really inspirational.

I did a mini shop report looking at clothes that were similar to what she was doing with the colours and the cuts I just took a few notes down with the fabric construction pricing and description of a few items:

Task 3: To ask a few business women a few questions. Not really sure how this relates to what she is doing as business wear and army wear are miles apart.
Three women were asked with slightly different styles but I could only get a picture of one as the other ones weren't that happy about having their photograph taken and even this photograph didn't work properly as the flash didn't go
off.

Finally task 4:
which wasn't for Lucy it was for her friend as her 1st year didn't show. It was to go and take some pictures of boats at Clarence docks as that is what has inspired her work. I don't understand why all this was been done at such a late date as they are on with their collections so surely this should have been done months ago. Here are a few of the photographs that I sent her.

First weeks of been an assistant

This was the first week of been an assistant to the 3rd year. The girl that I was meant to be paired with wasn't here and im told is never really at college so i'm not sure why they paired someone with her especially when i have got 100% attendance as when it comes to the 3rd years writing a report on how I helped them and how I did i'm going to be at a disadvantage.

I got paired with a girl called Lucy for the day, she is doing a different path way to me but it was still interesting to see what she is creating. She didn't have her sketch book on her so I couldn't see her development but she showed me her final line up. It is all based on war and everything over sized showing that they are to young to go to army as nothing fits and just green fabrics very inspired by army.

My first day was to go and do some research for her on

1. Swing tickets
2. Fabric labels
3. Website set ups
4. Coat hangers
5. War memorabilia

So it was a pretty easy day and didn't learn anything off her as I was in the library doing the research but I was able to see some places to get the swing tickets from etc which Imo sure in turn will help me when it comes to me doing my final collection.

Marit Fujiwara

I came across Marit Fujiwara a textile graduate from Chelsea college of art and design whilst searching for textile designers. Her work is amazing i love everything about it!!!!

Tent dress

Artists Adrienne Pao and Robin Lasser have created tent dresses or 'wearable architecture' for the outdoors.

They say their work is about seduction, 'a fusion of architecture, the body and the land', that 'poses the question of what lies under a woman's skirt in the 21st century'. Lasser & Pao

Multi functional dress which can be worn and then slept in giving it two purposes.

Hussein Chalayan

In 2000 Chalayan created a collection which included a table skirt inspired by his experience as a child during the war in Greece. This collection was based on the war time impermanence of homes raided and been forced to leave the house quickly with very few possessions.

This concept of clothing having more than one purpose has been explored by a number of different artists and fashion designers resulting from personal experience with war and frequently moving homes.
