Fashion art and culture project

My first project was fashion art and culture and we had to make a 3 - D poster to advertise an exhibition of our choosing.

I love combining old and new, so I decided to make an exhibition on exactly that. Based on contemporary fashion some that has been influenced by the 1920s and other just contemporary designs, and lastly vintage 1920s clothing.

I thought this would be an extremely interesting exhibition showing old and new, because thats what I love when shopping, going to vintage fairs and knowing that every garment, every piece of jewellery has a piece of history behind it, other people have loved wearing them and now they pass that onto someone else.

Whilst making my 3 D object my main objective was, once I had decided on the theme modernism and the 1920s and combining the two, was to make it a contrasting piece of old and new.

I decided that I would use photographs that I had discovered whilst doing my research that I really felt reflected the theme of 1920s.

I was conscious of the idea that it had to look visually interesting from all angles so I concentrated on this whilst choosing the way to present my photographs. I decided to print onto thin plastic sheets, as it would be interesting from all angles and then make different kinds of frames to go around each image to make it have more impact.

The piece had to be visually exciting but explain what the exhibition was showing. So I decided to do a very minimalistic contemporary painting on canvas, which is very eye catching as it stands out of place with the other items. To the back of this I then attached another 1920s era photograph to show that within one piece of work there will be an involvement from contemporary themes and also the 1920s.

I combined a lot of different things in my wind chime object, as I wanted there to be plenty of things to look at, and from each angle something else would be spotted.

I combined different styles of fonts, different ways of printing photography’s, either on plastic sheets or onto fabric, different styles of framing my images, different fabrics to show the contrast between the old and the new and how they could be combined but still look effective and I felt this eventually looked visually exciting.

This is my final design for my exhibition, I am quite pleased with the final design and think it is very interesting to look at and also reflects the contrast between old and new with a contemporary painting and old photographs.
